The ANOLF, is a voluntary association of immigrants from different Countries, that has the aim of supporting the friendship and the brotherhood between populations, following the spirit of the Italian Constitution. It was born for realizing a difficult and ambitious aim: working for creating an opened society towards the cultural diversities in a world always more multiethnic and multicultural, respecting and increasing the value of ethnical, cultural and religious characteristics. The ANOLF is promoted by CISL, one of the three most important Italian Trade unions, and it works to realize some specific aims:

  • information activity, consulting and assistance in order to promote immigrants rights;
  • training processes to learn the necessary instruments (language, culture, rules, professional training) in order to be active subjects of integration in employment and society;
  • actions to favor the socialization and the active associations among immigrants, respecting the ethnical and cultural origins, and without any kind of closing;
  • initiatives of recovery and protection of the original country cultural heritage;
  • maintenance of relations and collaborations in Italy and in Europe with Institutions, Organizations, Political, Working and Professional Associations, and others working in this field;
  • Interventions and agreements for cooperating with the original Countries of immigrants.

The “Thomas Sankara” Association was born in 2000 with the aim of realizing the desire of migrant community to participate to the city-life. The fields of the intervention are: rights of citizenship, social policies, intercultural education, information, promotion of migrants associations, promotion of cultures. Some examples of realized activities are: radio-information, cultural and linguistic mediation, teaching of Italian such as second language, promotion of citizenship rights, professional advising in territorial services, assistance in migration laws, and so on.

 

3) CEDAV onlus - CEntro Donne Anti Violenza (CEntre Women Anti Violence)

The CEDAV is an association of women that works in Messina since 1989 with the specific aim of promoting the culture of preventing the physical, psychological and sexual violence against women and children. The association has created a phone listening center by expert professionals in social work that firstly listen to the user and then invite her to meet the other women in the centre. Other services are talks of acceptance, psychological advising, legal assistance, social health network, family adoption, jobs front office, migrant women front office, documentation centre, time bank. An interesting project is “From darkness to the light”, a social protection project for treat victims of sexual abuse, to let women and juvenile foreigners coming out and sustaining them. The CEDAV, helping the victims of abuses and mistreatments to go out from the violence circuit, has the aim to change the cultural perception and to find effective forms of preventing and fighting the violence.  

 

4) CAG - Centro di Aggregazione Giovanile “ITACA” (Juvenile Aggregation Centre “ITACA”)

The CAG is a Juvenile Aggregation Centre, in Villaggio Aldisio, a “difficult” district of Messina, and it offers to the young people the opportunity of meeting each other, socializing and confiding in adult figures. There, a lot of initiatives are organized: graphic laboratory of painting, sport activities, games, scholastic support and so on.

 

5) Casa d'Accoglienza Jeanne Jugan (The House of Acceptance Jeanne Jugan)

The House of Acceptance “Jeanne Jugan” has been activated in 1992, from the group of volunteers who later constituted the Association of voluntary service “S. Maria della Strada” that works in Messina hinterland through other six houses. The centre is financed by the social funds of Italian Church. Opening every day 24 hours. The House offers:

  • evening and nocturnal acceptance of homeless, migrants and poor people;
  • service of low threshold in order to answer to the immediate needs (fast catering, service shower, distribution of used and cleaned up dresses;
  • support to the social secretariat (personal identifying datum search, elementary practices making, first medical advising, attendance in the relationships with social and institutional services, and so on).

 

6) Sportello Anti-Racket del Comune di Messina (Anti-racket Front-office of Messina Municipality)

It was established recently to fight the organized crime pressures over citizens who have commercial or other economic job activities.   

 

7) Specified projects about Asylum Seekers and Refugees
CANICARAO, COMISO and RAGUSA

(Province of Ragusa - 2 hours distance from Messina)

This special field visit concerns three different structures, dealing with asylum seekers and refugees in the province of Ragusa, 2 hours far from Messina. These projects belong to the SPRAR, the System of Protection for Asylum Seekers and Refugees, activated in Italy by the law 189/2002, depending by Internal Affairs Ministry and ANCI (National Association Italian Municipalities) through the Municipalities of Ragusa and Comiso. They are managed by Fondazione San Giovanni Battista, linked to the Caritas of Ragusa.
The field visit starts in Canicarao in a farm holiday where still refugees work. The visit continues in Comiso where there’re a structure dealing with unaccompanied minors and another one for lonely men refugees. Then transfer to Ragusa to visit the centre for lonely women or young mothers or families all composed by refugees.
TISSA participants will have special price for typical foods lunch in Canicarao (€ 10,00 for person).
Minibus transfer and lunch are not included in TISSA fee!
