Statement

The International Social Work and Society Academy expresses deep distress over the intensifying crisis in Gaza and the West Bank. The immense loss of life, widespread destruction, and ongoing suffering of civilians—especially women and children—demand urgent and unequivocal international response.

The continuous military campaign by the Israeli government has led to catastrophic civilian casualties, widespread displacement, and the decimation of essential infrastructure. Communities are being pushed to the brink of survival, with aid routes obstructed and basic needs denied. Independent international bodies, including the United Nations and the International Criminal Court, have found credible evidence of crimes against humanity and acts consistent with genocide, including the use of starvation and the deliberate targeting of civilian populations.

Equally troubling is the increase in violence and forced displacement in the West Bank, where illegal settlement expansion and state-backed aggression are eroding any remaining protections for Palestinian civilians. These acts form part of a broader pattern of systemic discrimination that contravenes established international legal standards.

As a global academic and professional social work network committed to human rights, justice, and ethical social work practice, we cannot remain indifferent. We voice our solidarity with social workers and allied professionals in Gaza and across the occupied territories who are upholding their professional responsibilities amid extraordinary personal danger and hardship. We also commend those in Israel and around the world who are calling for peace, equity, and accountability.

As social workers, our responsibilities extend beyond borders. We affirm our unwavering commitment to opposing violence, challenging injustice, and advancing human rights for all.
